Cadillac Mountain in the Fall

Acadia National Park

October is a great time to take advantage of the beautiful weather and the quiet trails in Acadia National Park. Willow chose this route because we had just had rain and she knew the cascades on Canon Brook and the Gorge Path would be flowing and beautiful. There were a few people on the trail once they met up with the South Ridge trail, but the trails were quiet overall.  We love this route because you get to travel on 8 different trails for a nice loop.

Trail Stats:

Total miles round trip– 5.6 miles loop

Date/start & finish time– 10/30/16, 10:30am-1:45pm

Trail Route – Kane Path -> Canon Brook -> South Ridge-> Cadillac->  Gorge Path->  Hemlock Trail ->  Sieur du Monts

Our Rating:  Moderate because of slick rocks on the Canon Brook Trail

The hike

Once you start to climb on Canon Brook and meet the larger cascades, stop and enjoy the flowing water and the views behind you as you start to get glimpses of the park to the southeast.  Also, when you reach the top of Canon Brook at the Featherbed on South Ridge Trail, there is a wooden bench and a sheltered spot for a quick break before you start the ascent to Cadillac.

Featured Gear: Asolo Future GTX boots because the rocks were wet for maximum traction.  Smartwool Hoodie to stay warm on the ridgeline and when the sun was hiding behind the clouds.

They closed out the day with Bar Harbor’s Best Bacon Bloody at Side Street Cafe. (49 Rodick Street • Bar Harbor, Me • 207.801.2591
