DD has known Elissa for a few years, they met working at the Portland and Bangor CVB respectively. They became great friends, connecting over their love for Maine and the outdoors, and have since both expanded their passions into outside ventures, so a partnership seemed only natural. As you know – at LoveMaineAdventures – we LOVE tent camping. and hiking.  When Elissa mentioned we should give her Scamp camper  a try for a weekend, we jumped at the opportunity to camp in style and go Glamping! Never heard of a Scamp? Neither had DD. more info here.

MainelyGlamping delivers their Glamper Camper to any campground within an hour of Portland.  Knowing that we were going to want to hike, we chose western Maine in the Bridgton area and landed the Pleasant Mountain Camping Area in Denmark right at the base of Pleasant Mountain along Moose Pond. It was such a “pleasant” experience overall, it definitely hit all of the marks – even an awesome campkeeper – Katie. They also have a cabin – the Hide Away  and a Canvas Tent available.

We left Bangor on a Friday after work and arrived in Denmark around 9:30pm.  It was raining so we quickly unloaded the essentials and got set up in the Scamp for the night.  We loved the cozy camper and it’s retro decor by Hills and Trails.  We enjoyed glasses of wine while listening to music from DD’s new barnacle speaker from her Cairn Obsidian package and did some trail research for the weekend before transforming the Scamp into a 2 person sleeper and hitting the sack – and we mean sleeping bag. How nice it was to not have to worry about bugs!

The next morning Willow awoke early to the call of the loons on the lake, unloaded the rest of the items from the car (Did we mention that Willow is a camping pro? check out this post for more on that) and took her paddleboard for a trip up the length of the pond.  It was cloudy and the clouds formed a mist over Pleasant Mountain.

Once DD woke up, we finished setting up our camping decor, had some cold brew and chatted with the friendly campground owner, Katie.  Katie informed us that the Ledges trail up Pleasant Mountain was just at the end of the campground road so we were even closer to the trailhead than we expected.  Once our friend Jess arrived, we hit the trail for a humid trip to the summit of Pleasant Mountain.

Unfortunately the views were limited because of cloud cover, but we had a great time anyway.  This hike is great for all ability levels and offers some great views from the ledges and from the summit.  We also liked that there were so many possible route options, we’ll definitely be back!

When we returned to camp, I am sorry, where we were glamping,  we started a fire and got dinner going- pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw were on the menu.  After dinner, we sat by the fire, listened to tunes and talked about the trail.  That night, DD and Jess retired to the camper for an evening “indoors” and Willow stayed in her beloved Big Agnes backpacking tent.

The next morning, we started the day with Bloody Mary’s and breakfast sandwiches, a camping staple.  After the glamping adventure was over and the Scamp was picked up (no fuss, no muss) and we finished packing up camp, we headed out for Evan’s Notch for a little exploration and swimming hole fun.

Evan’s Notch is a gorgeous spot in the White Mountain National Forest that winds its way through eastern New Hampshire and Western Maine, with trails and attractions straddling both states.  We loved being in the Whites while simultaneously being in Maine!

We were going to check out Emerald Pool, but a friendly Instagram follower had recommended Rattlesnake Pool so we had to check it out.  After a short road walk along a private road, we hit the Stone House Trail for a mile or so until we found the pool.

This trip is very easy for all ability levels and is relatively wide and flat with a few rocks and roots here and there.  The pool was spectacular and we had it mostly to ourselves so we took a dip and chatted with a few other visitors before heading back to the car.  On the way back, we encountered some large groups heading to the pool, so this one is worth getting to early to avoid the crowds.

We then enjoyed a drive through the notch, stopping at scenic outlooks and inviting river banks along the way.  We can’t wait to get back and explore more of Evan’s Notch, like the Bald Face Loop trail and Emerald Pool.
