People have asked a lot about how my boyfriend and I moved from outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Stockton Springs, Maine. They ask with a perplexed look, “What do you do for a living and why did you move to Maine?” We simply wanted a new adventure and to get away from the high stress life of living by the city. I hope you enjoy our story of moving to Maine – The Way Life Should Be.

My boyfriend Andrew and I are both in our 20s and were lucky enough to find decent jobs doing what we went to school for. Andrew is a Geographic Systems Analyst and I am a Graphic Designer. We were fortunate enough that our employers gave us the opportunity to live out our dreams while keeping our jobs. Since our move, I have been working on growing success with my photography and starting our antique business, Sea Maine.

We moved to Maine after visiting Acadia National Park for the first time in the Fall of 2016. Less than a year later, we bought a house. We fell in love with the scenery, the simple way of life, and the friendly people here.

I grew up playing a lot of sports and taking lots of photos. Andrew loved skateboarding and playing guitar. After we met each other in college, we both developed a strong desire to start exploring new parks and going on adventures together.

We moved from our first home in Pennsylvania to our new home in Maine in July of 2017. Soon after that we decided to adopt a dog to take on our adventures. We fell in love with Jett, a handsome Black and Tan Coonhound from P.A.W.S. in Camden and we couldn’t be happier. I’ve been photographing all our trips because I like looking back a remembering all the beautiful places we’ve been to, and also sharing them with friends and family to hopefully inspire people to get out and explore more.

Since the time we moved in, we’ve been getting around to a lot of beautiful areas here. It’s a little overwhelming since there is so much we want to see as soon as possible! We first fell in love with Acadia National Park. Who can resist the gorgeous rocky coastlines? And you get the best of both worlds with the mountains and the sea. It’s a dream.

One of our most recent trips however was Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in Millinocket. We wanted to get away from the crowds and have a shot a seeing moose, so this seemed to make sense. And with the Fall foliage going on now, we thought it would be the perfect time.

Although we were still a little early on the foliage, we were in awe of seeing all the amazing views of Mount Katahdin. Wow! We took the Loop Road which is an active logging road, but it’s also open to the public. It’s about a 16 mile dirt road loop. Definitely a bumpy ride, but you get amazing views of the tallest mountain in Maine, and you can also peel off on different hiking paths.

We really only passed a handful of cars on the loop and a couple people camping out. It was a pretty peaceful time. We also saw these bright yellow signs that read “National Park NO.” I do not know what the future holds for this National Monument, but I really enjoyed just being out in nature without the sounds of traffic or crowds.

I did also see a moose for a very brief moment while we were getting ready to hike up the Barnard Mountain Trail. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a shot of it in time, but I was so happy to finally see one!

After the day was over, we ended up spending a good solid 6 hours here. We plan on going back very soon. Then again, there is so much to see here and every season brings beautiful changes so we always get excited for our weekend hiking adventures.
