What to see in Acadia National Park
My Dad visited from Florida for the second year in a row, and we had already done the tour of Acadia National Park – we drove up Cadillac Mountain, did the Park Loop road, and hiked the Jordan Pond Loop. I wanted to give him a different experience on this trip, and I thought – what better way to see Acadia National Park than from in the air!
I’ve known of Scenic Flights of Acadia for years – taking a ride in one of their planes has been on my Maine bucket list. Although my crew is very adventurous, I couldn’t convince any of them to get in this plane with me, but I knew my Dad would. When I mentioned I was interested, he was all for it – and we booked our trip online that day!
GETTING THERE
It’s right off the Bar Harbor road! I recommend putting it into your GPS so you don’t miss it.
About
Scenic Flights of Acadia offers many different tour options. From the 15 minute Bar Harbor flight, to the 75 minute Historic Penobscot Bay Lighthouse Tour – there’s something for everyone! Dad and I chose the All Acadia, a 35 minute flight which takes you all over the island!
Our Flight
We took the All Acadia Flight, which is about 35 minutes, and costs $119.00 per person.
From Scenic Flights of Acadia’s website…
“You will enjoy fantastic views of the whole Mount Desert Island on this popular flight as it flies around the entire perimeter shoreline, highlighting Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Bass Harbor then on to the beautiful cliffs, mountains and islands along the western shore. This tour showcases three historic lighthouses.”
Our pilot made us feel really comfortable, and we were off in no time. Dad and I were just speechless taking it all in.
Seeing Acadia National Park from the air was like seeing it again for the very first time. I couldn’t believe how different it looked! It was fun trying to identify everything, and also learning history about the islands, including many things I was not aware of before! Our pilot was amazing – he was very interactive and we really enjoyed our time with him. We made sure to tip him nicely when we left 🙂
