Camden Hills, Maine

Mount Megunticook is a popular Maine hike. It’s located in Camden Hills, which is a town in Mid-Coast Maine. There’s a lot to see and eat in the town of Camden, which is why we love Mount Megunticook. The town of Camden offers so many views. You can drive up the Auto Road on Mount Battie, take a short hike out to Maiden’s Cliff, or explore many of the other trails and campsites in Camden Hills State Park. :

Trail Story

We ascended through the woods for over a mile. We did meet an unhappy hiker along the way, a small child who was clearly not loving the woods walk! Hey – I get ya, kid. Just about the time I was starting to ask “Are we there yet..” we hit a granite patch with stunning views!

This is a FANTASTIC place for a picnic – but it will probably be pretty crowded. You can move up a few granite patches until you find one you like for photos, or picnicing!

We still had .4 to the actual summit to go, and we believed it to be pretty flat, so we went for it. Spoiler alert – it’s only a nice view if you enjoy big piles of rocks. It is a beautiful cairn!

Ridge trail to the summit!

As always, we shimmied right on down the mountain in about half the time it took us to hike to the top. We took in the views a bit more, as it was an absolutely gorgeous day.

As you know, one of our favorite things to do after a hike is to grab a drink and something to eat. We were first headed to check out the Drougthy Bear, but it is closed on Sundays, so we headed to Rhum Bar!

Where to eat in Camden, Maine

Location: 59 Sea St, Camden, ME 04843

The food menu is mostly seafood, and a little on the pricey side. Drinks are reasonable and there are some snack options if you are on a budget. we ended up grabbing a few Bug Lagers, from Liberal Cup in Hallowell at $6/ea, some delightful oysters – 6 @ $12. I got the burger with cheese – YUM- and Ethan got the fish tacos and fries. Our bartender, Sunny, was awesome so we stayed and had another beer and talked with her about some of her hiking experiences.

There’s still a lot of places I can’t wait to eat in Camden Hills – so be prepared for some upcoming foodie posts.  The views from the Rhum Line are fantastic and the fish is the freshest. And – there’s a luxury tiki bar. Great for any day.

I hope you enjoyed my day of hiking on Mount Megunticook in Camden Hills, Maine.

Happy Trails,

DD
