Packing for a Weekend in Maine in the Winter – ski, hike, and more!
Hey guys! It’s DD. I’m heading out for a SUPER exciting weekend and I’m making my packing list, and I had a thought. My thought was – “Maybe I can write this list on the blog and also help others successfully avoid packing for a trip until the absolute last minute!”
Here’s my list for packing for a weekend in Maine – Winter Edition!
Agenda for the weekend:
Leave Bangor @ 7:00 am tomorrow to meet some friends at the trailhead for Mount Kineo, 3.4-mile loop trail with 905 feet of elevation gain for a 10:00 am departure. (let’s be honest, I’m not leaving at 7…. but I’m tricking myself.) GPS says 2 hours 10 minutes, so I’m planning 2 hours 30 minutes. I gassed up the car tonight, and I’ll have breakfast and coffee here, because I’ve kicked the fast food breakfast habit because it gives me heartburn. Also, since it’s almost midnight and I haven’t packed, I’ll need those extra minutes 🙂 After we summit Kineo, I’m planning to meet up with some friends that have a condo close to Squaw Mountain, so we’ll listen to the Mallet Brothers, have some beers, and watch the sunset. Sunday, we’ll get some runs in at Squaw Mountain in the morning, then head to brunch at The Stress Free Moose, then back to town. We are SO LUCKY to live here. shh, don’t tell.
Here’s my list of things to bring –
First, I check the weather…. High 35, low 14, sunny. 16 mph winds Saturday… (perfect!) Sunday high 26, snow, 15 mph winds. Pretty moderate and to be expected in Maine in Winter. A high of 35 followed by a high of 26, means ice, but maybe we will get some fresh powder Sunday am… ???
